What is readable content extraction?
Pulling the main article text out of a page and discarding the furniture.
A web page is mostly not content. Navigation, sidebars, cookie notices, related-post grids and footers often outweigh the article itself.
Extraction walks the rendered page, scores blocks by text density and link ratio, and keeps the block that looks like the body.
For AI use this matters twice over: it cuts tokens and it removes the distracting text that pulls answers off topic.
In practice
Reader mode in your browser does the same job visually; extraction does it so the text can be sent somewhere.
